Privacy policy
In short: we only collect what we need to prepare your case, we never contact the other parent, we never sell your data, and we delete your case files once your pack is sent back to you.
Who we are
Dads In Court (dadsincourt.co.uk) is a trading name of Zainer Group Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number [to add]. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), registration number [to add].
For privacy questions or to use any of your rights, email info@dadsincourt.co.uk.
We are an advice and preparation service. We are not solicitors. This means what you tell us may not be protected by legal privilege in the way it would be with a solicitor.
What we collect
- Enquiry form: your name, email, phone number (if you give it), whether you're applying or responding, where you're up to, and your short message.
- Screening questions: your answers before we take your case, including whether you have certain criminal convictions or have been involved in abuse.
- Your case: information about you, the other parent and your children (such as names, ages and current arrangements), plus any court papers, orders and documents you upload.
- Payments: a record of what you've paid and when. Card payments are handled by our payment provider and we never see your full card number.
Some of this is sensitive, such as information about children, health or criminal records. We treat it with extra care and only use it to prepare your case.
Why we use it and our legal reasons
- To reply to your enquiry (legitimate interests).
- To provide the service you've paid for (contract).
- To prepare papers for court, which involves sensitive information (establishing or defending legal claims, and your explicit consent).
- To screen applicants, including questions about criminal convictions (your consent, which you give when you fill in the questionnaire).
- To keep payment and tax records (legal obligation).
Information about the other parent and your children is only used to prepare your case. We do not contact them, and we do not send anything to the court or the other side. You file your own papers.
How we keep it safe
Your documents are uploaded through a secure link that we send you after screening. Access is limited to the people working on your case. Please don't send case documents by ordinary email.
How long we keep it
- Case files and uploads: deleted once your finished pack has been sent back to you, and in any case within 7 days.
- If we can't take your case: your enquiry and questionnaire answers are deleted within 30 days.
- Enquiries that don't go ahead: deleted within 6 months.
- Payment records: kept for 6 years, as tax law requires.
Once your case files are deleted we can't get them back, so keep your own copy of your pack.
Who we share it with
We never sell your data. We only share it with companies that help us run the service, such as our website host (which also stores enquiry form messages), secure file storage, email and payment providers. Some of these companies may store data outside the UK. When they do, we make sure proper legal safeguards are in place.
Cookies
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google may see your IP address.
Age
Our service is for adults only. We don't knowingly take enquiries or cases from anyone under 18.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, object to us using it, or send it to you in a format you can take elsewhere. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, although we may then be unable to carry on with your case. Email us and we'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
